Headset - 04
HEADSET:
O.M.A.S. Superleggera - threaded headset - 1" (25.4 mm) x 24 TPI Italian thread - high strength Ergal (aluminum alloy) construction - Clear anodized finish - 1/8" or 3.175 mm ball bearings without retainers (...62 count total at 31 each upper and lower) - aluminum alloy upper and lower bearing cups with pressed steel race inserts - 26.4 mm hardened steel crown race - aluminum alloy top lock nut and "keyed" washer - 120 "Big Sliding" Superleggera ... [A very high quality and lightweight alloy replacement unit of my choosing which happens to be consistent with the other O.M.A.S. componentry used in the reconstruction of this bicycle. Introduced to market for the model year 1976, this was also one of the precious few contemporary alternatives that might actually be considered an upgrade as opposed to a mere substitute for the venerable chrome plated steel Campagnolo Record model 1039 headset that would have come pre-installed on early Graftek G-1 models, regardless as to whether they were sold as a simple frameset or as a "complete" bike. It should be noted, however, that by 1978 provision of said Campagnolo headset was no longer included within the base purchase price for a Graftek G-1 bare frameset - this sleight of hand being performed in an effort to forestall raising the already steep M.S.R.P. in an acutely inflationary market.]
