HUBSET:
Campagnolo Record - quick release hubs - large flange design with lube port - non-anodized aluminum alloy barrels and flanges - loose ball bearings - 36h model 1035/A front hub (100 mm spacing) - 36h model 1035/P rear hub (122 mm spacing) - 1.370" x 24 TPI English freewheel thread - hub lock nuts marked "72" for 1972 in front / "CAM 72" for 1972 in back - model 1035 : pre 1978 non C.P.S.C. compliant beaded "flat handle" style quick release mechanisms with conical adjusters and "block" type "CAMPAGNOLO" logo - model 1001/3 (front) & 1006/8 (rear) ... [Correct and original.]
RIMS:
Rigida 1320 - double wall Rigi-ALU construction - polished aluminum alloy with eyelets - 20 mm section - hooked bead rim profile - smooth / non-machined braking surfaces - 700c clincher - drilled for Presta valves - 36h front / 36h rear - oval Red water transfer label having the words "AL 1320" above a stylized "RIGIDA" logo over the words "700c" and "MADE IN FRANCE" all in White letters located at the seam - model 1320 ... [This bike was apparently sold new having a set of Campy Record large flange hubs laced to Fiamme "Red" label tubular rims, however, that wheelset was subsequently replaced a few years later after the front rim was damaged beyond repair. At that point in time, the original owner elected to purchase a new pre-built replacement wheelset consisting of Shimano 600EX hubs which were paired with Rigida 1320 rims rather than repair the older sew-up setup. Fortunately, he did retain the used Campy Record hubset, and those parts were included along with this bicycle as part of its sale. In building up a new set of wheels, I decided to reuse those Campagnolo large flange hubs that had been originally fitted, although this time around I decided to match them with a nice pair of used Rigida 1320 clincher rims that I had stashed away rather than going about hunting down a set of Fiamme tubulars.]
SPOKES:
DT Swiss - CFT butted X12 CrNi 18/10 stainless steel - double cold forged - 14 / 15 gauge or 2.0 / 1.8 / 2.0 mm - rolled threads - model DT Competition : DT nickel plated brass nipples - 2.0 x 14 mm - model DT Pro Head ... [Another example of thoroughly modern and unoriginal components. According to its first owner, this bike came equipped with a set of Campy Record large flange hubs laced to Fiamme alloy tubular rims. A couple of years later after damaging the front rim beyond repair, the original owner chose to purchase a new pre-built wheelset consisting of Shimano 600EX hubs which were paired with Rigida 1320 rims. Fortunately for me, when I obtained this bike it came complete with not only the later wheelset having Shimano hubs but also the original Campagnolo hubset sans rims and spokes. I subsequently took those same Campy Record hubs that had originally come fitted with this bike, grabbed a pair of Rigida 1320 rims that I happened to have on hand, and built up a nice set of appropriately vintage wheels. At build time, I elected to take the pragmatic approach of using modern butted DT stainless spokes in favor of the Stella 14 straight gauge versions that would have originally been used.]
TIRES:
Wolber SL-19 - 700c x 20 mm - 60 TPI cotton casing - Black with White / Gum duo-tone sidewalls - clincher design - complex rubber compound - dual tread pattern (large slick center section with diamond figured flanks) - puncture resistant ply - wire bead - model SL-19 : Continental 700 - inner tubes - 700 x 18-25 mm sizing - 48 mm Presta valve - model Race 700 Light ... [While these tires are obvious replacements for those Clement sew-ups which would have been originally fitted from new, they do happen to be vintage successors to the Wolber model W-20 clincher which was readily available here Stateside from the mid to late 1970’s.]
